Owners Paul and Sonja are best described as modern type migrants trying to achieve the work of two generations in their lifetime! When returning to Australia in 1995, Paul, a trained pilot was unable to secure regular employment and Sonja, hailing from Germany’s Mosel valley with its steep vineyards and charming towns, suffered terrible homesickness.
After few years working at well-known Yarra Valley wineries, Paul had found his true calling as a winemaker. Fuelled by Sonja’s genetic precursor for growing grapes, the seed was planted!
After a long search for the ideal land, in 1997 Paul and Sonja found what they were looking for. The aspects and climate of the 52 acre cattle property in Murrindindi, just north of the Great Dividing Range near the township of Yea, were ideal for growing grapes. From the humble beginnings in 1998, the vision for Sedona Estate has been to produce fine cool-climate wines that are regionally distinctive.
